Strawberry girl

When I came home Saturday morning after a run, this is what I found.

Great grandmother Mema made Lily her strawberry hat.

Yes, Elhers is sharing her kong with Lily.  GROSS!  Funny how different things are when Daddy is charge!

Ironically, hidden under the ‘strawberry’ hat, is Lily’s first actual strawberry.  Poor baby took a nose-dive off her chair, luckily onto the carpet, and got herself a nice bump and carpet burn.

On the move

We’ve officially got ourselves a crawler.  Lily is perfecting the ‘army’ crawl and we are sure she will be up on her hands and knees moving about any day now.

Do you like how Ryan is enticing her with my blackberry?  Nice honey, next time use your own phone!

Vintage

After Lily was born, Nanny went through my baby clothes and sent us a few items.  Here is Lily in “vintage” Izod from 1981, at the Classic Cup with Auntie M, Nanny and Papa Kurt.

Brrrr, poor Baby.  Mommy forgot a coat and blanket, so after dinner Lily snuggled in with Daddy.

Cousins!

Cousin Katie was in from Seattle this weekend, and we were so lucky to spend a day with her.

img_0960

This gal might be one of Ryan’s favorite people in the whole world….growing up with only a brother, Ryan thinks of Katie as the sister he never had. Let’s just say, my very unemotional husband shed a few tears when this gorgeous girl walked down the aisle to marry ‘the Todd’ last year!

Lily and Katie are two peas in a pod and enjoyed an ornery moment together.

We miss you Katie and were so happy to see you and Todd. We are looking forward to planning a trip to Seattle soon!

Peas

Lily and her peas.   Oh my, what a little Drama Queen.

(Wait approx 1 minute before she reacts, sorry I’m still working on learning to edit videos).

But just as Kara predicted, she once again loves the veggie!

What’s cooking?

Since reducing my work schedule and subsequently my salary, plus the additional expense of daycare, our household has been getting creative in finding ways to cut costs.  It’s become a fun game for Ryan and I….we get pumped up trying to go without or experimenting with alternatives.

Therefore inspired by a few fellow bloggers, I decided to give making baby food a whirl.  The entire process took less than an hour and cost just a few bucks.  Lily now has peas, green beans, carrots, and sweet potatoes awaiting in the freezer!  Yummo!

However, after all my hard labor, Lily, aka Drama Queen, has now decided she hates peas.  Just last week, she would down the veggie like I would eat a Snickers….but today, she pretends they make her gag and cause her to almost throw up.  Such a little actress we have on our hands!

Baby, it’s cold…inside.

Mom, what the heck am I wearing?

Lily, it’s zero degrees outside, and I’m absolutely freezing in our house.  Therefore as a paranoid first time mom, I have you decked out in fleece PJ’s with an additional layer of a sweater and baby legs.  Plus your ears seemed a little chilly too!

img_0938

Gesh, maybe a little extreme ?  Oh well, whatever.  Since it’s so cold, can we stay in our PJ’s all day and play with all my Christmas presents?

Absolutely, that’s the plan.

Great! Now get down on this floor and play with me!

You got it, girl.  Sounds like a perfect day to me!

Reflection

As we welcome 2010, I have been reflecting on the past year and all that I have to be thankful for:

* I am thankful for my husband.  Who is patient and kind.  Even when I have a few “new mom freak out” moments.  Or plain ole “Lindsay freak out” moments.  Or on mornings when I haven’t had my coffee and just need a few moments to myself……..

* I am thankful for Lily.  For a healthy baby, who is happy and loved by so many wonderful people.  Who teaches me that it’s the little things in life I should be excited about.  Like rolling over, learning to squeal, a sweet smile and a giggle.  Who teaches me that I often should ignore the phone or TV or computer.

* I am thankful for family.  Because I can’t imagine getting through our first few months as new parents without our families!  Because I am hopeful (and confident) that our families will be near and dear to our little family in the years to come.

* I am thankful that this year has given me perspective.  For what is truly important in my life.  For who is truly important in my life.  I have discovered I don’t have the time nor energy for negative people in my life, and am thankful to focus on the amazing, abundant positive influences surrounding us.

* I am thankful for a roof over our head and employment for me and my husband during these turbulent economic times.

* I am thankful for the new year.  For the opportunity to reflect on those moments and people I am thankful for, and those moments I wish to improve on.

Happy New Year’s!

7 months

December 31, 2009. HAPPY NEW YEARS!

img_0904

A few Lily observations:

*Just like Isaac, I also sing when I am tired.  It’s my signal……..t-minus 60 seconds then I’m gonna start screaming at the top of my lungs.  Nanny likes to say my demeanor “can change on the drop of a dime”!

* I have discovered the art of sitting up. And now laying down and rolling over is OLD NEWS.  Boring.  Next trick.  Do not lay me down.  I am way too big of a girl to tolerate this.

*  Nanny keeps telling me I am just like my mommy.  Because I do not hold still.  Ever.  Unless I am completely passed out in my crib.  I am one busy busy girl.  Anything within my reach is MINE!

img_0903

* I’m considering crawling.  Well actually I just like to rock and roll on my belly and think it’s hilarious.  I giggle while trying to move forward, while actually ending up moving backwards or in circles!

* However, my mommy thinks I will walk before I will crawl.  I show more interest in pulling myself up and standing then I do trying to crawl.  Nanny says Mommy walked at 1o months, while Grandma  says Daddy didn’t walk until 14 months.  Mommy is hoping I am more like Daddy!

img_0910

* I’ve said my first words “hiiiiiiiiiii  dadada”.  However, my mommy says it doesn’t count because I don’t really mean to be saying hi to my daddy.  Daddy disagrees.

* I celebrated my first Christmas with my family, and feel very lucky to be loved by so many people.

We love you more than words.  Happy Birthday Lily!
